"The society has seen innumerous organizations which have rendered selfless service to humanity. A name which stands out among all these names right from its inception is the National Service Scheme (NSS). The motto – NOT ME BUT YOU, reflects the selflessness which is the only requirement to belong to NSS.
Though the name NSS was never unfamiliar to our college, it was last year that we were given the privilege of starting a new NSS unit. Even before the official inauguration, NSS had carved a niche for itself in the campus by rendering its service in the form of hospitality management for Dhwani’06 which included transportation, reception, registration, accommodation and certificates. NSS work in this regard also included setting up the Open Air Auditorium. Even after Dhwani’06, NSS took up the responsibility of clearing up the stage premises. With the admissions for the first years for the academic session of 2006-2010, NSS setup a help desk to guide the students and their parents for the smooth conduct of the admission procedures. 18th of October saw the inauguration of the NSS CET unit no. 147. The occasion was blessed by all the executive staff members and has not looked back ever since.
When Friendship Day and Valentines Day are in vogue, NSS still takes pride in celebrating Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanthi and the like with an equal enthusiasm. Awareness Campaign on the dreaded disease AIDS was conducted in connection with World AIDS Day. NSS also plays an important role in the blood donation forum and Care Plus. Blood donation forum which is quite familiar to the students provides opportunity to the students to contribute their part to a life saving cause. NSS members also act as volunteers for NGO’s like Care Plus besides helping out in ‘Anganvadis’, orphanages and the like.
Apart from bringing the students closer to contributing to the society, NSS also creates opportunities for the over all personality development and recreation. Informal activities are conducted to ensure that all members are familiar with each others talents and aptitudes. As a step in this direction, a one day camp was organized on10th Feb’07 in the college. Volunteers from NSS also attend regular workshops on fields as diverse as street plays and seminars on issues like life style diseases. The NSS CET Unit has been working hand in hand with other NSS units in many endeavors.
NSS has a vision for the future. Among its upcoming activities are – a ten day camp, a blood group determination camp, personality development programs, corporate training to be provided in association with the placement unit of our college, hospitality management of Aavishkar – state level technical symposium by ISTE and the most important of them all - village adoption. The village adoption plan would see the NSS volunteers taking up the responsibility of not only educating the children of a nearby village but also putting the resources of NSS for the benefit of the villagers in all spheres possible.
The lifeblood of the NSS unit is the highly devoted and diligent work force comprised of enthusiastic youth of our college. The support of the staff is indispensable in this regard. As this unit now moves towards the completion of the first year of its formation, lets all hope the endeavor greater success.
